SIR – I write regarding your front page article (December 21) in respect of a 79-year-old lady who was kept in the A&E for 16 hours before any attention was given to her.
I myself, aged 90, was admitted to A&E at noon in October 2017. I was dealt with by the medical team who were rushed off their feet and I eventually was taken to the cardiac ward at 4am the next morning after waiting 16 hours.
Knowing that A&E is always very busy from previous press reports I noticed several members of staff worked far beyond their allotted hours, but I have never moaned to the local press and aired my views, because I am fully aware how overworked this department can be.
