TOUGH conditions at Boughton Park made scoring difficult for competitors in Worcester Golf and Country Club’s September medal with only five players breaking the course par.
Leading the way in Division One was Phil Campbell who, playing off five, shot a gross 73 to push Darren Warner (72-4-68) back into runners-up spot on count-back. Warner, however, did have the consolation of scoring the day’s lowest gross score.
In-form Bill Sheridan (78-8-70) finished third, pushing Darren Cheese down a position on count-back. Cheese finished on 79-9-70.
Keith Taylor maintained his recent good form when he topped Division Two with 82-15-67. Steve Richards (80-12-68) just edged out Alan Boocock (82-14-68) for second place thanks again to the count-back system.
Phil Wilde turned in a solid performance to win division three with an impressive 88-17-71.
No fewer than five players finished one shot behind Wilde, so count-back came into force again. On this occasion, junior member Jason Farr finished second with 89-17-72 and new member Alan Ferguson was third with 89-17-72.
Meanwhile, the mixed section held their popular Randall Cup with Ann Gardner and Malcolm Wilkinson taking the pairs trophy, finishing on 41 stableford points.
In runners-up spot on count-back were Jane Nicklin and new member Adam Scott. Third place went to Val Ashmore and Malcolm Jeffs on 36 points.
