WORCESTER City might be out of both FA competitions before Christmas, but there is still plenty to look forward to this season.
As disappointing as it was to lose to Harrogate Town in Saturday’s FA Trophy third qualifying round, we remain positive.
Everyone dreams of being the next club to enter the limelight and emulate teams from our level who have won the FA Trophy in the past.
However, in reality, that is incredibly difficult to achieve.
We tried and tried against Harrogate, who disrupted play by time-wasting, but it didn’t go for us on the day.
It’s bitterly disappointing but we now have an opportunity to continue our progress in Blue Square Bet North and maybe surprise a few people along the way.
There are quite a few games coming up between now and Christmas to do that, starting with leaders Hyde on Saturday at St George’s Lane and Monday’s trip to Hinckley United.
We now look at every single game as one we can pick up points from, no matter who we play.
Although we need to respect Hyde’s tremendous points return — I don’t think anyone predicted they would be top at this stage — we believe we can beat them.
That attitude has not always been the case at Worcester — in years gone by there have been occasions when we have faced the top sides and felt we would do well to get anything from them.
With the league to focus on, that belief is encouraging.
We are well placed in eighth position and want to stay there and push on into the new year.
We are only three points off Nuneaton Town in fourth spot and history shows that, like Eastwood last season, there is always a team who put a late run together.
We are hoping to kick on and move even higher up the table.
The camp is bubbly and we try to take positives out of every situation, even in defeat, and implement them in the next game.
Hopefully, the fans will continue to get behind us because if they lose interest with where we are in the league then there’s not much hope for us.
Meanwhile, well done to all the players and staff who have taken part in Movember by growing moustaches for charity.
They have all had a go at it, with varying levels of success, and raised a decent amount of money for a very good cause.
They deserve to be applauded for that.
