MEMBERS of Worcester Golf and Country Club have embarked on the season of Turkey Trots.
The first competition was a better-ball stableford and more than 70 pairs participated, with some excellent scores, considering it was three-quarters handicap.
Division One winners, thanks to count-back, were Ronnie Carver and Richard Jones, who recorded 47 points.
A three-putt by Darren Phillips robbed him, and his partner Dave Goodall, of the winning spot and the pair had to settle for runners-up after also scoring 47.
In third position with 43 were Graham Peplow and Graham Hubbard. Six pairs recorded 42, but Stuart Band and Jamie Evans snatched fourth place, thanks to scoring 24 points on the back nine.
Two of the club’s senior members, Brian Warrington and Alan Hempson, headed Division Two with 44.
Chris Catchpole and Sean Perry finished runners-up, thanks to having a better back nine than Lol Cooper and Robin Lowe. Both pairs scored 42. Fourth spot went to Steve Blewett and Jeremy O’Keefe on 41.
Sunday’s better-ball medal was again well supported and some low scores were recorded.
Peter Griffiths and Ted Turley took the main prize with a nett 60. A number of pairs recorded nett 63s, so the count-back came into force.
Andy Abbot and Richie Evans finished second and Mark Dancox and Martin Gasic were third, while Martin Lewis and Jason Lee claimed fourth.
