CLOSE on £400 was raised by Bransford Golf Club when it staged its annual event in aid of the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.
This year, 18 teams of three, each armed with a Pudsey ball that counted double points, took part in this popular stableford event.
The winning trio was Matt Waterhouse, Glenda Davidge and Sheila Richards with a return of 112 points, just two ahead of Jenny Bishop, Pauline Wetton and Alan McPherson. Other leading scores were Steve Bourne, Geoff Thomas and Stuart Crump, and Simon Gent, Cynthia Holmes and Neil Sheldon, both with 106, and Dave Ryall, Alan Cockill and Gerry Rebbeck with 102.
Meanwhile, it was honours even as Bransford seniors began their winter league campaign at home to Little Lakes.
Most of the games were closely-fought affairs, with two of them going to the 18th hole, and a 3-3 draw was probably a fair reflection of the day’s events.
The players faced tough conditions after heavy overnight rain and a steady drizzle throughout the match, which left most of the fairways saturated and several greens with standing water.
The seniors’ final match of their summer programme, the annual challenge against St John’s Working Men’s Club at Bransford, was won by the host club 3½-2½.
