IT was disappointing to have lost at Bath in the LV= Cup as we wanted to keep our momentum going, not just in the competition but as a club too.
But take one look at the two teams the clubs put out and it is obvious that Bath have targeted this trophy.
The LV= Cup is probably the shortest route into the Heineken Cup and there are some pretty good financial rewards too.
But we can take a lot of positives from the game, even though we lost 46-13 and conceded seven tries.
We had a pretty young side out at The Rec with a few of the players making their first starts for the club.
Ollie Hayes had a great game on his full debut and at the line-out he provided plenty of good possession for Chris Jones and Ben Gulliver — those two also stole the Bath ball on several occasions.
What was also pleasing to see is we have got a lot smarter at the breakdown.
At the start of the season, that area was not going particularly well but we have worked on it and are going through the phases so much better.
We are not conceding as many penalties in that part of the game so we have to take the positives from that. We did limit Bath’s opportunities, but they were clinical and scored from all of them.
You just can’t afford to switch off at all because when you make a mistake you are going to get punished.
But getting Josh Drauniniu over for his try was good and we could have had a couple more scores too.
On Friday night, we are back in Aviva Premiership action and back at Sixways to face Wasps.
They will bring a much different side to the one we beat 20-19 in the LV= Cup a couple of weeks ago but, to be fair, our squad won’t be the same as for that match either. Wasps are a beatable side, we have already proved that, but we know we are going to have to be at the top of our game.
We want to continue our winning run at home and if we can beat them on Friday then that will be three victories out of four games at Sixways.
For the last two games I have been playing at outside centre and I have to say that I’m enjoying it.
Firstly, there are no issues injury-wise for me and I’m feeling quite comfortable at 13.
I hadn’t played there in quite a while so I knew I was never going to set the world alight in two games but I’m getting more involved in the contact and I’m enjoying it.
Ceri Jones underwent a shoulder operation last week and he is going to be out for up to four months which is a big blow.
But we have got strength in depth there.
Matt Mullan has been fantastic in the one jersey and we have also got Bruce Douglas and George Porter.
It is never nice being injured and we look forward to seeing Ceri being back out there on the pitch as quickly as possible.
