JORDAN Hick, son of former Worcestershire and England cricketer Graeme, overcame strong winds to become the first junior section club champion at Worcester Golf and Country Club.
The new trophy, donated by chairman of competitions Roger King, was awarded to the day’s best gross score, and was keenly contested.
Fifteen-year-old Hick, playing off seven, recorded a magnificent gross 74 (nett 67) to just pip Jason Farr (86-18-68).
It was a story of what could have been for Farr, son of the club’s PGA professional Graham, as he recorded a 10 on the ninth hole.
Sarah Kaced was third with 98-29-69, while the day’s best nett was recorded by young Alex Band (102-40-62).
Gary Taylor and his son Mike won the father and son competition for the first time when they recorded 41 points in the Greensomes Stableford event.
Graham and Jason Farr were runners-up with 39, edging out Paul and Adam Griffin on count-back.
September Thursday medal, Division One: 1 Andy Abbott (73-6-67 — on count-back); 2 Anthony Ottway (69-2-67); 3 John Kartz (78-11-67).
