WELL I certainly didn’t expect to be writing this column on an unexpected day off!

I’m still in shock, beating the LV= County Championship Division One leaders Lancashire inside two days doesn’t really happen to us.

It was an unbelievable performance from the bowlers and Jimmy Cameron.

All four seamers were exceptional — they got the ball in the right areas.

Richard Jones went at just over one-an-over in his spell, Alan Richardson did what he does best, Gareth Andrew got three wickets in four balls and Kemar Roach’s express pace whipped the tail out.

But Jimbo’s contribution was immense. I think it was as good as any of the bowlers — to get 98 in those conditions, when everyone else was falling around him, was a great effort.

I’m really pleased for him too as he had a bit of a tough start in the Championship but he’s shown his worth, been brilliant in one-day cricket and really deserved a hundred in that match.

Without a doubt, it was his innings that set the game up.

To get that 76-run lead was fantastic — that is what you strive for in any Championship match.

This was a massive victory, it was our fourth of campaign and we targeted five at the start of the season.

But we still haven’t achieved that and have got two more games against Sussex and Durham to do it.

We can still go above Sussex in the table as well and that is a target too.

It is not just about survival, it is about getting as many points as we can and finishing as high as we can.

We have done well so far, but there is still work to be done.

The bowling unit at the moment is phenomenal.

Gareth is in the form of his life, it is the best I have seen him bowl in four-day cricket since he has been here.

Dick Jones has come back brilliantly after a sticky start to the year, he’s come back in and is bowling with pace and swing like he was at the start of last season — it is great to see.

Add Kemar into that with absolute raw pace and, of course big Al, and it’s brilliant to stand at slip and watch.

On Monday, Brett D’Oliveira became the first third generation player for Worcestershire following in the footsteps of his old man Damian and his grandad Basil.

It was a shame Brett didn’t get to bat as he’s pretty useful, he got a 100 in the second team this week.

He bowled reasonably decently too, leg-spin’s a difficult skill, and he’s a whippet in the field.

He’s a very different character to his old man and is very bubbly and lively.

He’s involved in all the banter and is a great guy to be around, a really nice kid and, more than that, he is a very good cricketer.
