IN a low-scoring, but exciting, Worcestershire League Division One encounter, Worcester Nomads crept home by two wickets in a tense finish against visitors Bromyard.

The Herefordshire side were put in and soon lost captain, Edd Oliver (0) and Olly Bailey (8), both caught by Nomads’ captain Ben Schiffmann at slip off Liam O’Driscoll and Dylan Stanley respectively.

Zahid Saeed and Dinusha Fernando took the score to 107, before the latter was well stumped by 14-year-old Alex Milton for 42 off the bowling of Steve Bowman.

Schiffmann took out Errol Anderson for 0 and then Bowman trapped Saeed lbw for 42. George Godsall was well caught by O’Driscoll for three, again off Bowman, and Bromyard were struggling.

Greg Leighton (31 not out) and Tom Bayliss (13no) added vital runs late in the innings, but Bromyard could only post a below-par total of closing on 179-6.

In reply, O’Driscoll (59) played shots all round the wicket, but lost partners at regular intervals until he found a willing partner in young Milton. Saeed and Fernando, with nearly 700 first-class wickets between them, expertly worked through Nomads’ middle order.

Milton (24), Stanley (29) and Bowman (0) all fell to Saeed, while Olly Swift (22) was bowled by Fernando. As the light faded, Ian Milton (13no) and Schiffmann (4no) scrambled their way to 182-8 and a fine win.
