EVESHAM Golf Club’s men’s section played for one of their most prestigious trophies, the Hospital Bowl.

The strength of the club’s junior section was evidenced once again with three of the top 10 places going to the youngsters.

However, the juniors were not able to get their hands on the trophy as committee member and former ‘A’ team captain Trevor Woodward took the honours with a fine nett score of 64 (74-10). His two-over par gross total included 14 pars and a birdie.

Second, and only one shot behind, was up-and-coming Dan Bailey with a nett 65 (76-11). Third place was contested by a couple of senior players. Derek Boocock (85-16) and captain Richard Cross (87-18) both carded scores of nett 69, but Boocock just shaded third on count-back.

Fifth place also had to be decided on count-back with Andrew Witts (81-11), Mike Callaghan (79-9) and Dave Carsberg (81-11) all coming in with a nett score of 70.

Two-handicapper Oliver Farrell won the prize for the lowest gross score with a 73. Club chairman Alan Askew achieved a hole-in-one on the difficult par-three 16th hole.
