WORCESTER St John’s Cycling Club held a 19.5-mile time trial from the Carrington Bridge to the M50 roundabout and back.
Thirty-four riders competed on a blustery evening with Adam Hart the fastest in 43 minutes 55 seconds.
Rob Nicholls followed with 45.00 ahead of Mark Corbett on a fixed wheel with 46.21.
Just 46 seconds separated the next six places in a close race.
St John’s are running a 14-mile hilly run from Bransford around country lanes through Alfrick and Suckley at 7.15pm tonight.
The second piece of silverware of the season will be up for grabs — the D&G Hughes Cup.
At the Beacon Open 10, seven St John’s riders competed in a tough headwind on the return leg.
In the Janet Kelly memorial race held by Beacon, a time of 26.02 gave Holly Page the prize for fastest junior.
In the men’s event, the fastest for St John’s was Hart with 22.01 for sixth place, while Dave Walker clocked 23.21, Martin Staines 23.28, Ed Dursley 23.56, Paul Castle 24.03, Jon Wheeler 26.11 and Paul Guest 26.12.
Page also won the prize for youth rider nearest their personal best at the West DC 10-mile time trial with 26.37.
Roadworks forced a course change from the fast dual track course to two laps of a single carriage ‘B’ road with strong gusty sidewinds and heavy showers.
