WORCESTERSHIRE are in a good position after the opening day of their LV= County Championship Division One match with Nottinghamshire.
They bowled out the reigning champions for 223 with veteran seamers Damien Wright and Alan Richardson taking three wickets apiece before captain Moeen Ali took the final two.
On a New Road pitch that offered great assistance to the seamers, only Riki Wessels, making his championship debut for Notts, offered any real resistance before he was trapped lbw by Gareth Andrew for 67.
In reply, former Worcestershire skipper Vikram Solanki (52) played a fine innings as he punished every bad ball that came his way.
The 35-year-old brought up his half-century off 51 balls but he was trapped lbw by Andre Adams two balls later after James Cameron had earlier departed for just one.
Opener Matt Pardoe showed his usual grit and determination to get through to stumps on 13 not out having faced 80 balls as Worcestershire closed on 77-2 with Moeen on 10 not out.
