A HOLE-IN-ONE was the highlight of Bransford seniors’ home win over Burghill Valley.
It was achieved on the par three third by Jeff Thomas, who saw his seven wood tee shot just clear the water hazard surrounding the front of the green and roll into the hole, much to his delight and that of his playing partners.
As for the match, the home side eased to a 4½-2½ success to continue an impressive start to their summer programme.
Ombersley was the venue for the Bransford seniors’ captain’s away day. Organiser Neil Sheldon, Ken Jones and Adrian Wood came out on top in a hugely enjoyable stableford event.
They totalled 90 points, just three ahead of Richard Steele, Mark Allen and Paul Edlin.
Mike Davidge, Robin Brighton and Alan Wallcroft were third after a back nine count-back.
The highest individual score was Wallcroft’s 43, one ahead of Steele.
Roy Mayo won the prize for nearest the pin on the fifth and Sheldon on the 17th.
The longest drive on the 16th was achieved by Ian Hamilton.
Near-perfect conditions produced good scores and a close finish in both divisions of the seniors’ May stableford at Bransford.
Division One was won by Tony Lee with 40 points, one ahead of Brian Corfield with Ferey Ghani a further point away in third spot.
A 40-point haul was also the top return in Division Two which was won by Clarice Knowles on count-back. She just pipped Mayo with John Phillips third on 39.
Meanwhile, the senior section has just held one of their major events in the summer calendar — the captain’s charity competition for the Dave Lumsden Trophy.
Once again, the conditions were near-perfect for the field of 40 as Hamilton, playing off 16, took the trophy with 39 points. Pauline Wetton was the runner-up on 38, while Wood had 37.
The event raised £199 for the County Air Ambulance Fund.
