WORCESTERSHIRE are again without skipper Daryl Mitchell and veteran seamer Matt Mason for tomorrow’s LV= County Championship Division One clash with reigning champions Nottinghamshire at New Road (11am).
Mitchell has not played since tearing an intercostal muscle during the Clydesdale Bank 40 match with Derbyshire on May 8, while 37-year-old player-bowling coach Mason injured his shoulder last month at Nottinghamshire.
Captain Mitchell, 27, hoped to return tomorrow but is not being risked and Mason missed last night’s Twenty20 warm-up against Scotland.
Director of cricket Steve Rhodes has brought in academy product Neil Pinner after the departure of Adrian Shankar.
Pinner has hit form with the second XI and is already in the County’s one-day side so the 20-year-old academy product may get the nod, while Moeen Ali will retain the captaincy in the interim and bowler Jack Shantry is likely to return.
Worcestershire followed up their 61-run success over Shropshire with a victory against Scotland Saltires.
In the match against Shropshire, a half-century from Alexei Kervezee and an unbeaten 71 from James Cameron helped them to 188-6 before the Minor Counties side were restricted to 127-7 in their 20 overs.
Against Scotland at New Road, Kervezee struck a 48-ball century, which included five sixes and 11 fours, as Worcestershire racked up 198-5 in a 91-run victory. Moeen Ali picked up 4-24 and Chris Whelan 3-31 as Scotland were bowled out for 107.
Worcestershire (from): Pardoe, Cameron, Solanki, Moeen (capt), Kervezee, Pinner, Andrew, Scott (wkt), Wright, Richardson, Shantry, Jones.
