ADRIAN Shankar’s brief spell with Worcestershire was ended last night after his two-year contract with the club was terminated by mutual consent.
The former Lancashire second XI batsman only joined the New Road outfit a fortnight ago and last week he had to be stretchered from the field after injurying his knee on the third morning of the County’s LV= Championship match with Durham.
Shankar was believed to have played cricket in Sri Lanka over the winter for Colombo in the Sri Lankan Mercantile T20. However, County supporters have been questioning Shankar’s age on the club’s website.
Respected cricket website cricinfo.com says Shankar is 26, while cricketarchive.com say he is 29 and played a second XI game for Nottinghamshire in 1999. He played three second XI games for Worcestershire in 2003.
However, the County are so far declining to say why they have released Shankar.
