RICHARD Hill has room in his Warriors budget to bring in one more player — but insists he won’t be spending the money for the sake of it.
The Worcester head coach revealed he is interested in adding an extra forward to his squad, but will only bring in someone who he feels will really add something to the group.
Although there has been a delay in rubber-stamping the signing of Cornish Pirates lock Ben Gulliver, Hill is including him in his plans and is on the look-out for another forward, probably a number eight.
The Sixways boss said: “We have got scope in the budget to bring in one more player, which would probably be a forward if we could find the appropriate one.
“There was one I was trying to get yesterday, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen now. We have some budget available and, if the right player becomes available, then we will pitch for another forward.
“There is no point in recruiting just for the sake of it, though, so any new signing would have to be someone we thought could make a real difference to the team. If I can’t get someone like that, then I am more than happy with the quality of the squad I have at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Plymouth Albion’s premature announcement of a pre-season friendly against Worcester at their Brickfields home seems to have caused problems for the south coast outfit.
As part of the deal that took Albion duo Sione Tu’ipulotu and George Porter to Sixways, Warriors agreed to play Graham Dawe’s side in pre-season.
However, although the date was still to be finalised, Plymouth announced the game would take place on Friday, August 26.
Worcester have committed to playing Cornish Pirates in a warm-up game on Saturday, August 27, so informed Plymouth they won’t be playing at Brickfields on the Friday night.
Albion's chairman of rugby Dawe said: “We won’t now be playing Worcester the last weekend in August. We have got another date in mind, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
“We had pencilled in a fixture to play them at Brickfields that weekend, but they have been let down by another club and feel they want to play at home that weekend.
“They have offered us another date and it is likely we will play them earlier in August at a venue to be decided.”
If Albion do lose out on a home game against Worcester it would be a blow to them financially as a match against Warriors would have probably pulled in a crowd of around 2,000 people.
