WORCESTER’S Barbourne club entertained Kington from Herefordshire at Redcliffe Street and clinched an impressive 29-shot victory.
The home team took the lead from the start and after 10 ends had established a 30-shot lead.
Kington reduced the arrears to 20 with five ends remaining but Barbourne came back and stormed home.
Dave Coopey had the highest win for the home team with a splendid 20-shot victory over K Bitthel. There were also wins for Trevor Arnold and Pete Albutt’s rinks by 10 and seven shots respectively to cap a good match for the home team.
Barbourne also travelled to Vines Park, Droitwich, and came away winners by 22 shots without losing on any rink.
Leading the way was Tess Hooper’s rink with an 11-shot victory over Wally Harrison’s four. The win was all the better because, with five ends to play, they were one shot in arrears but picked up a total of 33 shots, dropping 10 to win by 22.
In their latest home game Barbourne just held on to beat Manor Park by one shot.
After 10 ends they had built up a useful lead of 11 shots. The visitors, however, came back strongly and with five ends to play they held a seven-shot lead.
The home team came back at them in the last five ends picking up 24 shots and to win by one shot.
Captain Trevor Arnold’s rink led the way with a win by eight shots, as did rink five skipped by Carol Glover.
Manor Park’s T Gardner picked up six shots in five ends to beat Dave Freeman but it was not quite enough to win the game for his club.
Worcester suffered an 11-shot defeat when they entertained Caldicot (Mon-mouthshire), making a short tour of the county. Picking up a five enabled the home side to take a lead of seven after five ends, butover the following five ends Caldicot had reversed the deficit to lead by five after picking up a five and a four.
The tourists continued to hold this advantage and on the final two ends clinched victory after scoring a four and a three.
With both sides winning on two rinks, Worcester were led by Mark Dawson's four who ran out comfortable winners by 12 shots. After picking up a five, Terry Witherall’s rink finally won by two.
