WORCESTER Golf and Country Club held their first major Open competition of the season at Boughton Park with a large entry, including numerous away club players.

The Dick Cup, played under the difficult foursomes, bogey format, saw home pairing Terry Clark and Gordon Bailey pick up the trophy for the first time with a score of plus three.

The minor placings were decided on count-back with no less than five pairs recording scores of plus two.

Stuart Denyer and Peter Eccles took the runners-up spot with Malcolm Wilkinson and Brian Gardner in third position.

Chris Lloyd and Scott Goldsmith were fourth, while the Bransford Golf Club pairing of Don Bolton and Stuart Wood finishing in fifth.

Meanwhile, the mixed section competed for the Essell Cup on the same weekend.

The format for this competition was four-ball, better-ball with pairs being drawn for.

Jane Nicklin and Jon Wood romped home with a score of 63 to lift the trophy.

Jean Eyres and Rod Buchan were second with 66, just finishing ahead of Wendy Davies-Hodgkiss and Ashley Watkins on count-back.
