ASA Charlton has become the latest player to commit his future to Worcester City.
The defender, who can play centre-half or left-back, joins skipper Ryan Clarke, Rob Elvins, Tom Thorley and Kevin O’Connor in agreeing terms for the 2011/12 season.
Charlton, 33, made 16 appearances for the St George’s Lane side last season, scoring two goals, after arriving in March following his release from Blue Square Bet North rivals Corby Town.
Manager Carl Heeley said: “I am very pleased with Asa staying. Since he’s come back to City, he’s been solid.
“He can play as a left-sided centre-half or at left-back and his experience is important.”
Heeley is still waiting to hold talks with striker Marc McGregor over his future, while a decision is yet to be taken on defensive midfielder Gavin Hurren.
Former Kidderminster Harriers man Hurren suffered a knee injury in the 1-0 victory at Guiseley in March and is due to undergo minor surgery in the next week.
Striker Danny Glover, midfield trio Simon Richman, Gary Walker and Matt Birley and utility player Neil Cartwright are all considering offers. Right-back Graham Ward has already rejected terms, while assistant manager Mark Clyde has also left.
Meanwhile, Heeley has held preliminary discussions with several targets, as he seeks to add to his squad over the summer. He is due to meet more over the coming days.
The City boss, who intends to appoint another assistant in time for the new campaign, said: “We are looking to get some players in over pre-season and there are a few that we might sign.
“They are unofficial enquiries to see what their plans are without committing either side.”
n The annual supporters’ match for the Tony Moore Memorial Shield raised more than £700 for the club.
Fans paid to take part in the Lane contest, held in memory of the former Worcester Evening News deputy sports editor, who died in 2004.
