CORNISH Pirates will not lie down and hand Worcester Warriors a Premiership place on a plate, according to the south-west outfit’s high performance manager Chris Stirling.

Warriors claimed a 21-12 first-leg victory at the Mennaye Field, but Pirates chief Stirling is adamant his side can overturn that and shatter Worcester’s dream of an immediate top-flight return.

The return clash will be played out in front of a capacity 12,024 Sixways crowd on Wednesday evening (7.45pm) and Stirling was bouyed by his side’s second-half performance in Cornwall.

He declared: “I don’t want to harp on about it, but there is still another 80 minutes of this game.

“We’re not going to change things. We’re going to play a lot of rugby and are not out of this by a long shot.”

Stirling added: “Worcester were very clinical. They started strongly, we made a couple of errors and they took the points. But it’s only half-time, this game doesn’t finish for another 80 minutes.

“We’ll go to Sixways and give it our best shot — if you want to win big games, you’ve got to go out and play rugby and that’s what we’re going to do.

“I admire the guys for the way they played and the way they stuck at it in the first leg.

“They kept going and, even when the ball didn’t go our way, we still stuck at it and continued to play.”
