THE nine-point cushion Worcester hold over Cornish Pirates going into the second leg of the Championship final has left Warriors fans confident of securing promotion back to the Premiership.
The 21-12 first leg success in Penzance means Warriors take a healthy advantage into Wednesday night’s re-turn at Sixways (7.45pm).
While the majority of the Sixways supporters who joined in the discussion on Twitter were confident Warriors would finish the job in the second leg, several felt Richard Hill’s men need to up their game.
Laurence Fletcher tweeted me to say: “We made a few silly errors on Wednesday, but we looked solid. The massive Sixways crowd will be awesome.”
Danny Dowler added: “I think the nine points will be enough as long as we keep our nerve and discipline. Come on you Warriors!”
Gary Hazlehurst was also confident of a Worcester victory on Wednesday saying: “(Pirates full-back Rob) Cook’s (penalty) miss just before the end eased the nerves somewhat.”
However, Andrew Candlin and Phil Mason refused to get too carried away and urged a cautious approach to the match.
“Treat it as nil-nil and go out to win the game. Another good start and the Sixways atmosphere will crush the Pirates,” said Candlin, while Mason added: “We still need an early Warriors score, but once we have that the pressure is off and time to play and have fun!”
A few Pirates fans were understandably keen to back their side to overturn the Warriors lead.
Adrian Uren said: “We broke the gain-line a few times, it was just the final pass which let us down.” Bill Hooper added: “An early seven points for the Pirates would make it interesting.”
