KATE Walker saw off a strong field of players to win gold at the English Senior Open.
The Olympic hopeful progressed steadily through the preliminary rounds, taking early leads and waiting for the moment to pounce and finish the contest.
However, this changed in the semi-final where her French opponent was launched into the air with a superb dummy into a backwards throw which was one of the best moves of the tournament.
In the final, Walker, from Kidderminster’s Samurai Club, was up against the same player she had annihilated to win the British Universities title earlier in the year.
Her opponent had clearly been coached in how to avoid the footsweep Walker had thrown her with last time, so she changed tactics.
This time Walker produced a different throw before holding the girl on the ground for 25 seconds to seal victory.
