WORCESTERSHIRE Royals will be looking to follow up their six-wicket success over Kent Spitfires by toppling early Clydesdale Bank 40 Group ‘A’ leaders Derbyshire Falcons at New Road tomorrow (1.45pm).

The victory at Canterbury boosted Steve Rhodes’ men as they chased down the Spit-fires’ score of 232-8.

But the New Road chief is wary that Derbyshire picked up an impressive 52-run win over Yorkshire on Monday.

“Derbyshire had a good win this week but we will take a lot of confidence from our win at Kent,” said Rhodes.

The County’s director of cricket says his team are bene-fitting from all-rounder Gareth Andrew’s fine start to the season.

Rhodes said: “Gareth made massive improvements with the bat last season and he has carried that on this year. When he is in good form, the whole team benefits from it.”

Rhodes says he is yet to make a decision on whether to play Aussie all-rounder Damien Wright tomorrow with Liverpool-born seamer Chris Whelan hoping to reappear for the first team aftermore than 12 months out due to injury.

Neil Pinner will play his third start for the Royals after making the breakthrough from the seconds this term.

The 20-year-old former RGS Worcester student formed an important partnership with Alexei Kervezee at Kent last week to help steer the Royals to victory.

“His running between wickets with Alexei last week was encouraging,” Rhodes added. “He has also been good, like the rest of the team, in the field. We have challenged Neil to make point and the backward point position his own.”
