EVESHAM United manager Paul West is hoping to continue his raid on Redditch United after making a move for their skipper Andy Jones.

The Blue Square Bet North basement boys announced last week they were slashing their playing budget to zero.

The Robins chief quickly snapped up former Worcester City skipper Craig Wilding and now West wants central defender Jones to join his resurgent side.

Evesham, who have lost just once in the last 10 matches, followed up an 8-0 thrashing of Zamaretto League Premier Division strugglers Halesowen Town with a 0-0 draw against second-placed Salisbury City.

But, despite his Hartpury College students David Accam, Isaac Shaze and Samuel Mensah missing from the clash with the Whites, West was more than pleased with the display against a team he is backing for the title.

“The performance against Salisbury was much more pleasing to me than the 8-0 win at Halesowen,” West said.

“They are pretty much full-time and are real contenders for the title.”

The Evesham boss will welcome back his Hartpury trio on Sunday for the visit of lowly Tiverton Town (3pm).

Despite their fourth-from-bottom position in the table, Tiverton are unbeaten in the last three outings. But West feels they have the cutting edge with Accam, Shaze and Mensah returning.

“We knew when we signed the Hartpury boys that they wouldn’t be available for us in mid-week,” West said.

“But the players who came in have done extremely well and helped us get some good results.

“David, Isaac and Samuel got six of the eight goals against Halesowen so that does give us a cutting edge.”

Defender Kevin Spencer is battling to overcome an ankle injury for the Tiverton clash, while forward Leo Brown serves the second game of a three-match ban.
