HEREFORD United are in hot water after it was discovered that winger Rob Purdie was ineligible to play in last Tuesday’s victory over Torquay United.
The former Oldham player signed a permanent deal at Edgar Street on transfer deadline day but was not registered in time to figure in Devon.
However, Purdie, who had been on loan with the Bulls, featured in the 3-1 win at Torquay, who are also under investigation for playing ineligible striker Jake Robinson.
Hereford admitted this morning that they had sent a detail explanation to the Football League regarding the Purdie situation.
The statement said: “Purdie was one of three signings made on Monday, January 31 and the club insist confusion arose because all three were subject to different deadlines.
“It was a genuine administrative oversight in the very hectic hours leading up to the transfer deadline, which the club reported to the Football League as soon as it was discovered.”
Hereford will be asking the league for a personal hearing.
