RICH Widdowson is hoping his appointment to Worcester City’s board of directors will show the club is moving in the right direction.

The 41-year-old has been named as the fifth director at St George’s Lane, joining chairman Anthony Hampson, Andrew Watson, Colin Layland and Mike Davis.

All are members of the club’s supporters’ trust.

Widdowson’s addition is even more significant given that he was part of the Shareholders Action Group, the so-called rebels, who tried to oust Dave Boddy’s board in 2009.

His remit will be to look after hospitality and sponsorship, something he was doing prior to becoming a director, as well as helping to plan for the future.

Widdowson said: “We have got to run the club for today but we have also got to plan ahead. We have to set things up now that will last five to 10 years.

“I have been around for a long time at St George’s Lane and have been trying to do stuff for 10 years.

“If I am on the board things must have changed.”
