WORCESTER City boss Carl Heeley will not gamble on the fitness of his players in tomorrow’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final at Halesowen Town.

City head to The Grove looking to build on Saturday’s 2-0 Blue Square Bet North success over Boston United.

But, with a congested fixture programme over the coming weeks, Heeley is not prepared to risk losing players for longer than he has to. Striker Marc McGregor played the last 15 minutes on Saturday and midfielder Gary Walker was left out.

Heeley said: “We’ll see what we’ve got available but if players are struggling we’ve got others to come in. We won’t be silly and force people to play.

“Although we want to win the cup, we’ve got to bear in mind there’s a run of league fixtures coming up as well.

“We decided to leave Gary out on Saturday. His hamstring is a little bit sore and I’d rather lose him for a week than rush him back and miss him for considerably longer.

“Hopefully, he will be OK for tomorrow but it’s not the end of the world if he’s not.

“It’s nice to have Macca on the pitch because he’s a big player for us and gives something a little bit different. We’ll give him some part to play tomorrow.”
