CARL Heeley hailed every one of his Worcester City players as outstanding following their 2-0 victory over Boston United.

Danny Glover scored from the penalty spot and then supplied the cross for Shane Clarke to put through his own net as City climbed to 12th in Blue Square Bet North.

It was a battling performance in tough conditions at St George’s Lane and Heeley was delighted, singling out new recruit Gavin Hurren for special praise.

The Worcester manager said: “It was a very blustery day, a bobbly pitch and it wasn’t going to be a classic game of silky football.

“Sometimes you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and have a scrap and Gavin did that and everybody seemed to take a lead from him. Everybody who took part was absolutely outstanding. It was a thoroughly deserved win.

“They were very physical and I think they tried to bully us and it clearly didn’t work.”

He added: “I’ve said many times before, we are as good as any team in the league if we perform.

“It’s that consistency that we’re striving for and knowing how to win games when it’s tight has let us down.

“But the boys will learn from that and defensively I thought we were magnificent.”

Heeley also said he had no qualms with keeper Dean Coleman’s red card for handling outside his area but felt Rory Coleman should also have got his marching orders.

The Boston player appeared to handle the ball on the line from Tom Thorley’s corner in the build-up to Glover’s goal.

Heeley said: “Dean was in a situation where he either handled the ball or they scored a goal. I feel sorry for him because he got sent off and their player handled the ball on the line. I have got no arguments about Dean but their boy has got to go as well.”

Neil Cartwright was equally pleased with the result and hopes City can use it as a springboard to more success.

The left-back said: “Boston are up there for a reason, they’re a very good team and that’s twice we’ve beaten them now this year so hopefully we can push on from here.

“We want to go on a run now and see how high we can finish. Our aim is to win every game and see what happens.”
