JAMIE Pitman believes Hereford United can tap into Dave Kevan’s wealth of knowledge in their bid for League Two survival.

Kevan has been appointed to the Bulls’ coaching staff following the departure to Crystal Palace of Lennie Lawrence. He will help Pitman and assistant boss Russell Hoult as Hereford bid to steer clear of relegation, starting today against Lincoln City at Edgar Street (3pm).

Kevan, 42, has worked alongside the likes of former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson and Pitman says that can only benefit Hereford.

He said: “Dave has some great experience. He was at Notts County with some good managers — Sven Goran Eriksson, Ian McParland and Steve Cotterill.

“He is an ex-player and has also been on the staff as a coach at Crewe, who have some excellent coaches.

“Russell and I felt that we needed an extra coach, not necessarily a mentor in trying to replicate what Lennie and I had, but a top coach and Dave fits the bill. Russell worked with Dave at Notts County last season and spoke very highly of him.”

Meanwhile, Torquay United could face a three-point penalty after admitting Jake Robinson was ineligible for Tuesday’s match against Hereford. Robinson, who scored in the match, was registered too late following his Monday move from Shrewsbury.
