WORCESTER Nomads enjoyed a double victory over Droitwich Spa in the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League.

Nomads ‘A’ saw off Spa ‘A’ and head Division One with Cutnall Green, while the Bransford-based club’s ‘C’ team bagged their first win against the town team’s ‘B’ outfit.

Malvern suffered a heavy defeat against Royal Grammar School Worcester, while Martley shocked Bewdley to top Division Two.

In the ‘A’ clash between Nomads and Droitwich, the former batted first to score 125-4 with Ben Schiffmann (18 not out) adding to efforts from Danny Rees (25no), Steve Bowman (24) and Darren Lakin (20).

Droitwich started well through Jerome Connor (33no) and Paul Bryan (24) but Spa fell 12 runs short on 113-4 with Derek Austin taking 2-29 and Schiffmann 1-30.

RGS dismissed Malvern for 70 after compiling 137-4 to win by 67 runs.

Dan Goodyear (30), Will French (30no) and Ollie Hills (24) starred in the students’ total before Malvern skipper Anthony Arnold (41) held the fort until the final over.

But four ducks cost the town team with Andy Curtis taking 3-10 and Patrick O’Driscoll 2-11.

In Division Two, Martley beat Bewdley by two wickets after successfully chasing down the Wyre Forest side’s 116-3.

Nick Wilkinson (36no) and Matt Cowdery (26no) impressed for Bewdley but Martley were guided home on 117-4 by Paul Gardner (38no), Jim Basford (19no) and Ian Flower (23).

Droitwich ‘B’ fell for 88, leaving Nomads ‘C’ with a five-wicket win as they galloped to 90-1.

Andy Fletcher (26) top-scored for Spa with Dave Pearson taking 2-15.

Nomads never looked vulnerable as Sam Roberts (27no) Jack Brain (25no), Alec Milton (19no) and Pearson (6no) contributed to an easy victory with three overs to spare.
