WORCESTER City go in search of a much-needed victory when they host Boston United tomorrow (3pm).

New Year’s Day was the last time Carl Heeley’s side picked up three points — a 2-0 win over Gloucester City.

That was their fifth consecutive victory but, since then, success has been hard to come by with only two points from four Blue Square Bet North games and an FA Trophy second round replay defeat.

The situation will not be any easier against the fifth-placed Pilgrims but Heeley knows his players have the ability to win and wants them to step up to the plate.

City were 3-2 winners at Boston in the FA Cup in September — courtesy of a last-gasp strike from Danny Glover — and want to repeat the success at St George’s Lane.

They are also desperate to get back out on the pitch having made a 500-mile round-trip to Workington for nothing last weekend after the match was postponed.

“It’s going to be a tough game, Boston are up in the play-offs and there for a reason,” said Heeley, who is not expected to add to his squad before the game.

“We are looking to get a win on the board as soon as possible to set off on another run.

“I want the players to do themselves justice because there have been a few times this season when we have been frustrated by performances because we have not played to our ability.

“If they do that, I cannot ask any more of them and we can win the game.

“Our form has been indifferent at home this season.

“We would like to have been more consistent.”

Striker Marc McGregor, who played a major part in City’s five-match winning streak before suffering a cut ankle, will be in the squad as long as he shows no ill-effects from last night’s training session.

Gary Walker will have a late fitness test on his hamstring injury, while fellow midfielder Kevin O’Connor returns following illness.

Simon Richman serves his one-match ban for the red card he picked up in the FA Trophy defeat at Eastleigh, meaning attacking midfielder Matt Birley should start.

Boston, originally due to visit on December 4 before the weather intervened, have not lost in the league since New Year’s Day and defeated Redditch 1-0 at the Jakemans Stadium last Saturday.

Meanwhile, keeper Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton, who played six games on loan at Worcester last season, has joined Darlington.
