FOLLOWING the postponements this winter, it’s going to be a hell of a challenge until the end of the season.

Between now and the end of March we are only going to be able to have another two training sessions on Monday nights because of the fixture list.

Last Saturday hardly helped our cause either. We are going to be playing a lot of games and still have to fit in the rearranged game at Workington.

There is also the likelihood of being without a fixture on Saturday, February 26 — when we would have played Ilkeston Town, who went out of business.

The only way we can have a match then is if Alfreton lose in the FA Trophy that day and Guiseley, who they are due to be playing in the league on the same date, win in the Trophy. That way we could host Alfreton but it’s all ifs and buts.

There has also been an incredible lack of Saturday home league games this season.

When we host Boston United this weekend, it will be only the second Blue Square Bet North match at St George’s Lane on a Saturday since October 23.

The players are champing at the bit to play but it’s been a bit stop-start lately with losing the Alfreton game to the weather, drawing 1-1 at Gloucester and then having the Workington match postponed.

But, looking at the forecast, we shouldn’t have any issues with getting the game on against Boston and we are looking forward to it.

Then we go to Halesowen Town in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-finals on Tuesday.

These games give us an opportunity to pick up some league points and progress to the final of a cup competition.

You only have to look at our team selection against Kidderminster Harriers in the last round to see that we are taking this competition seriously.

We played extremely well on the evening against the favourites and I suppose we take up that mantle now, but first of all we need to get the Boston game out of the way.

We beat them 3-2 in the FA Cup earlier this season but they have had an excellent campaign to date.

We know what we are going to get from them, they don’t concede a lot of goals and they are a tough nut to crack.

We will have to be at our best against them.

On the injury front, Marc McGregor (inset) has improved from his cut ankle and I am extremely hopeful he will be available for the weekend.

He trained on Monday but on his own so he didn’t have any contact.

Mark Clyde didn’t train either and nor did Gary Walker to give him time to recover from his hamstring problem.

Tim Sandercombe is due to have his knee surgery tomorrow so fingers crossed we get a bit of positive news and the operation was a success.
