ANDY Preece's side created a tiny bit of history by thrashing four goals past Leigh RMI on Saturday.

Despite their struggles at St George's Lane, a sensational result at Hilton Park meant City had won five away league games in succession for the first time in 15 years.

It was Ally Robertson's team of 1990/91 -- which later in the campaign included current City captain Des Lyttle -- that last achieved the feat.

Back then, in the Beazer Homes League Premier Division, City beat Dartford (3-1), Wealdstone (1-0), Rushden (1-0), Weymouth (1-0) and Atherstone (3-1).

Going further into history, City won seven on the trot in 1976/77 when crowned champions of Southern League Division One.

More impressively that season, the team built by Nobby Clark won 12 away league games in 13, a 0-0 draw at Stourbridge proving the only aberration.

This current confident City outfit can equal the record of seven straight victories on the road if they chalk up three points at both Droylsden and Worksop Town in the season's final straight.

And while City continue to produce high-quality football away from the Lane, stunning goals are being thrown into the package too.

"It's not only our results, but the performances have been absolutely top-drawer," admits Worcester chairman Dave Boddy. "Some of the football has been breathtaking.

"The Stalybridge performance was easily our best league performance of the season.

"We've then reproduced that sort of football in very difficult conditions at Leigh.

"Some of the football and goals have been something to savour. It's just a pity that we haven't managed to reproduce that football at home.

"There's been some great goals. The first goal at Hednesford was a class move finished off by Adam Webster. George Clegg scored a 30-yarder and Leon Kelly's goal into the corner was excellent.

"We scored good goals on Saturday, but Webby's first at Stalybridge would be a goal-of-the-season contender."

The good form of recent signings Mark Danks and Adam Burley has contributed towards City's renaissance. Danks' goals -- nine since joining from Forest Green in January -- provided a breath of fresh air, while Burley is beginning to justify the tag of `best left wing-back in Nationwide North'.

Burley's performances have been uneasy at home, but there is no doubting his obvious class.

It would require OPTA Index statistics used in the Premiership, but Burley's `pass-completion rate' must be close to 100 per cent.

Boddy added: "Both are quality players. Danksy's goals have turned our season around. And from my point of view, Adam Burley has played his best football away from home. When the home supporters see what he really does, they will be impressed."

Although City's incredible away form is keeping alive their play-off hopes, they require a miserable run of results from fifth-placed Harrogate who are four points ahead with two games in hand.

But, unfortunately, the Yorkshire club are presented with four winnable home games during their run-in, including Gainsborough tonight, Worksop, Hednesford and Lancaster.
