YOU would think that goals come easy for Worcester City -- at least when it comes to the FA Cup.

For, in their last two encounters in the world's greatest knockout competition, Andy Preece's men have found the net no fewer than 10 times.

City demolished minnows Bemerton Heath Harlequins 7-0 at St George's Lane last month and set up a fourth qualifying round match at Accrington Stanley with a 3-0 home success against Ryman League Division One Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.

Strike partners Adam Webster and Leon Kelly both have three goals to their name in the cup, while Nick Colley, Sam Wedgebury, Liam McDonald and captain Graham Hyde all have one.

Yet, it is a different story when it comes to Nationwide North. In the nine games since the season began, City have amassed just eight goals in total, a far cry from their cup exploits.

They may have been playing teams below their level in the FA Cup, but City can have expected to have been successful a few more times in front of goal than they have been to date in the league.

Last season's top marksman, Webster, is their joint highest scorer with central defender Chris Smith so far in Nationwide North with just two goals.

Indeed, Webster, who grabbed a brace along with Kelly against Bemerton, is the only City player to have hit the target in a league game since Les Hines' double in the 2-1 home defeat to Droylsden in August.

And chairman Dave Boddy believes it is not for the lack of the players getting themselves in the right positions to stick the ball away.

He said: "I would like to transfer some of those cup goals into league goals.

"The opposition has had something to do with it but we have been guilty of missing a hatful of chances. We have been creating chances but missing them."

It is therefore no surprise Boddy believes it is vitally important third-from-bottom City get some success out of the league double header at the weekend.

City host leaders Northwich Victoria and Nuneaton Borough on Saturday and Monday respectively.

"It's a big weekend," Boddy said. "We need some points this weekend. We need to win one of the games and I would be happy if we won one of them."

City's predatory instinct may be deserting them at times, but one definite plus point is their mean defence.

Their back-line remains unbreached in the cup and has not conceded in any competition since the 1-0 loss to Hucknall Town on September 10.

"The important thing is we are keeping clean sheets as well," Boddy added. "That's three on the bounce now."
