BROMSGROVE Rovers could have a new defender in their squad in time for tomorrow's home match against Hednesford Town (3pm).

The club need to bolster their rearguard following the departure of defensive duo Ross Collins and Exodus Geohaghan.

Manager Rod Brown said: "Unfortunately Ross and Exodus are no longer with us. It means I have to bring in a defender but I am talking to someone who would be a bit special if we got him."

Collins was set for a second spell at the Victoria Ground after re-joining from Telford in the summer.

But work and college commitments meant he was unable to dedicate as much time to the club as he wanted.

Collins has since signed for Southern League Midlands rivals Stourbridge.

The highly-rated Geoghagan has left after Brown chose not to renew his contract at the end of the season.

"Exodus has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level," said Brown. "When his contract came to an end I decided not to offer him a new one."

Meanwhile, Evesham United boss Paul West is hoping to tempt ex-Worcester City player Paul Carty out of retirement.

They start their friendlies at Alvechurch on Tuesday night.

Former Worcester City players Wesley Joyce and Jamie Hyde are likely to be involved in Malvern Town's first pre-season friendly at Bridgnorth Town tomorrow (3pm).

New boss Paul Molloy has other signings lined up ahead of Town's first season in the Southern League Midlands.

Strikers Mark Owen and Mark Shepherd are among those to have left for Evesham.
