LEADERS Worcester Wanderers forced a hard-earned 14-3 win over Spartans in a clash of the Midlands Two West (South) high-fliers.
Wanderers, playing into the strong wind in the first-half, took the game to Spartans with their smaller, more mobile pack .
Luke Weaver, making his first start since returning from long-term injury, caused problems in the line-out.
James Price provided Greg Fincher with quick and accurate ball but the wet, gloomy conditions made passing difficult.
However, Wanderers continued to press and scored two quick-fire tries through Chris Griffiths and Jake Saddington.
Both were converted by Fincher and sandwiched a Spartans penalty.
Wanderers dominated territory in a pointless second period but the Spartans defence was resolute.
Fincher missed a penalty attempt and the Spartans were a constant threat on the break.
More handling errors crept in as the rain continued to fall.
Wanderers lost tighthead prop Rob Green to what looked like a serious knee injury but closed off the match successfully.
