WORCESTER City need to develop a winning mentality if they are to climb the Blue Square South table, according to manager Richard Dryden.

City lost 1-0 at Welling United on Saturday and sit one place above the drop-zone with just 16 points from 20 games.

They reach the half-way stage of their league campaign with the rearranged trip to Thurrock a week tomorrow and Dryden knows his team cannot afford to continue dropping points.

He said: “We don’t want to lose ground in the league which is why we’re trying to get the Thurrock game on quickly.

“Hopefully, if there’s not a replay in the FA Trophy against Grays Athletic, we will play Thurrock on that Tuesday. But we have got to get points out of these games. I’m disappointed about the result against Welling and a little bit disappointed about the performance.

“But when we don’t play well we have to grind out a result.”

Blue Square Premier side Grays visit St George’s Lane on Saturday for an FA Trophy first round crunch clash and the City boss is looking forward to the test.

“It will be nice to play someone in the league above us and see what the players have got about them,” he said. “We need that winning mentality at the moment, whether it’s cup games or league matches.”
