HEREFORD United’s achievements in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy have been honoured with the team of the round award.
The Bulls set up a southern area semi-final clash against Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday, December 15 (7pm), with a penalty shoot-out success against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road last month.
That victory, their third in a row in the competition courtesy of spot-kicks following triumphs over Bristol Rovers and Aldershot, has been selected as the top performance of the area quarter-finals.
John Trewick’s troops conceded a 93rd-minute equaliser in that match but held their nerve in the shoot-out to see off the League One side and progress.
A Johnstone’s Paint Trophy panel voted their effort as the most impressive of the round and the award was presented to the Edgar Street club yesterday.
Manager Trewick said: “We were delighted to progress to the next stage and showed immense character in doing so.
“The award is testament to the work that the lads put into that game against Leyton Orient and we are looking to go further when we entertain MK Dons.”
Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick added: “Hereford United’s penalty shoot-out win was the stand-out result of the area quarter-finals and one that deserved our team of the round award.
“The team is certainly showing nerves of steel, after beating Aldershot Town in round two on spot-kicks as well.
“The club has embraced the trophy since the very first kick and we look forward to seeing them take on MK Dons.”
