TWO Malvern Hills Indoor Club stars are the national under 25s singles champions.
Amy Stanton, a student at the University of Worcester, and Andrew Walters, a garage manager from Broadway, picked up the trophies.
This is the first time both women’s and men’s under 25 champions have come from the same club as Malvern hosted the finals over two days. Stanton opened with a win over Clevedon’s Laura Holden and then edged out Newark’s Simone Dewis.
She defeated Lauren Copeland, of Thornaby, in the semis and won both sets to beat Spalding’s Rebecca Allan in the final.
Meanwhile, Walters romped through against Phil Lewis, of Clacton, before a tighter win over David Roe, of Newquay.
He then turned aside Swale’s Sean Coyle, Isca’s Grant Howland and finally Louis Ridout, of Ilminster, to claim the trophy.
Walters has already been named World Bowls Tour young player of the year.
