KIDDERMINSTER Harriers will be looking to draw on past successes as inspiration for victory at Stevenage Borough tomorrow (3pm).
Stevenage are second in the Blue Square Premier and the Aggborough outfit make the journey to the Hertfordshire without a win in their last three matches.
Mark Yates’ men were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Tamworth on Tuesday following a 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon and a 2-2 draw at Wrexham last week.
However, Harriers will point to notable triumphs against teams currently occupying the play-off places as proof they are more than capable of arresting that run.
So far this season, they have beaten runaway leaders Oxford United and returned with the spoils from Kettering Town a week later, no mean feat given the Poppies’ win at Luton on Wednesday and their 1-1 FA Cup draw against Leeds United.
Harriers also saw off Mansfield, who are fifth, at Aggborough in early September and so will feel they have what it takes to topple Stevenage.
In addition, Graham Westley’s side are not enjoying the greatest of weeks following a 2-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday, which brought an end to a run of three consecutive victories without conceding a goal.
The Borough chief admitted his side were “shocking” in the second-half against Ebbsfleet and captain Mark Roberts has demanded a response from his players in tomorrow’s clash.
Harriers are set to welcome back Robbie Matthews after the striker served his one-match ban against Tamworth for picking up five bookings this season.
Left-back Danny Andrew has extended his loan spell from Championship side Peterborough United for another month.
The full-back made his debut for the club in the 2-0 defeat at Cambridge United on October 31 and has since made six appearances for the club, doing enough to persuade boss Yates to keep him on.
Harriers skipper Chris McPhee said: “The next couple of games are vital for us and we have to go to Stevenage tomorrow and win. That’s the bottom line.”
Stevenage welcome back defender Michael Bostwick and midfielder Darren Murphy, who served one-match bans against Ebbsfleet.
