PERSHORE Swimming Club ace Tazmin Pugh beat off strong competition at Britain’s Olympic 50-metre long course pool in Sheffield.
The talented youngster bagged two golds, three silvers and one bronze.
This was Pugh’s first trip to Ponds Forge although her first swim was a baptism of fire in the 200m individual medley.
She came second to City of Leicester swimmer Hannah Knight in three minutes 12.09 seconds, less than a second outside the personal best she recorded at Coventry a few weeks earlier.
A 400m freestyle time put Pugh back on winning track, taking gold with a time of 5.53.93.
Pugh faced Knight in the 200m backstroke and clocked 3.11.35 but the East Midlands swimmer got the better of her again. Pugh realised she was in a tough battle with the nine-year-old, who already trains at the swimming academy at Loughborough University.
When the 50m freestyle arrived, Pugh had the bit between her teeth and swam a gutsy 35.65 to win gold and beat Knight by one second.
The final event was Pugh’s weakest so a third place was the best which could be hoped for.
With Knight reaching the 10-year-old threshold soon, Pugh’s times have put her in first place in the UK for long course in her age group in four events, second in one other and third in the 200m breaststroke.
