THE retiring club and lady captains of Gaudet Luce Golf Club, Simon Lovering and Jenny Hartley, were delighted to present Kelly Whitehouse, of Macmillan Cancer Support, with a cheque for £9,614.
Members of the Droitwich-based club held a number of events throughout the year, including entering two team’s in the ‘Longest Day Golf Challenge’, which asks golfers to play 72 holes and hit over 300 shots all in one day.
Two teams from the club successfully completed this formidable challenge to help the charity continue to provide the expert care and emotional support needed by people living with cancer.
Among other events held during the year were golf competitions, a jazz night, jumble and car boot sales, a Macmillan coffee morning, a moonlight walk over the Malverns, a charity auction, the juniors car wash and many raffles.
Jenny Hartley, ladies’ captain, said: “Cancer touches all of us at sometime in our lives. I was one of the very lucky ones and recovered, but there are those not so fortunate and this year we have lost one of our founder members, John Fincher, who sadly died of the disease.
“Our love and prayers are also very much with our lady member, Mae Egan, currently battling against cancer in St Richard’s Hospice.”
Kelly Whitehouse, Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Worcestershire, said: “Thank you to all the club members for the amazing amount raised.
“There was so much help and support for the charity this year, not just from members but also families and friends, that it is impossible to personally thank you all.
“Macmillan is overwhelmed by the support we received from Gaudet Luce during 2009 and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your tremendous generosity. “Your support will enable us to reach our goal of supporting everyone affected by cancer by 2012.”
