HIGHLY rated try-grabber Miles Benjamin has handed Worcester Warriors a welcome boost by putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract.

The 21-year-old academy graduate, who has bagged an impressive 24 tries in 60 appearances for the club, is coming back to top form after suffering a broken leg in last season’s European Cup clash at Bourgoin.

The Solihull-born speedster is a key figure at Sixways and, this term, has beefed up his defence as part of his development into a high quality winger.

The contract extension for Benjamin, who has crossed the whitewash five times in 11 outings this season, follows hot on the heels of a new two-year deal for England Saxons prop Matt Mullan as Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock goes about securing his top talent to long-term deals.

The Sixways chief said: “Miles is hot property at the moment and has attracted a lot of interest elsewhere. He is playing some outstanding rugby and, at just 21 years old, will only get better and better.

“We’re delighted that Miles has chosen to stay at the club rather than take up some tempting offers elsewhere. Like us, he believes the Warriors will continue to make progress.

“He is a fine young man with a big future ahead of him. It shouldn’t be long before we see him playing for England Saxons and hopefully England.”

Benjamin added: “I’m really pleased to have sorted out my future at Warriors. I can now continue to be part of the development of a club that I think can become a leading side in both the Guinness Premiership and Europe.

“I’m playing alongside players that I’ve got to know very well and I’m in an environment where I feel comfortable and can develop my game further. We’re all pulling towards the same goal and I’m looking forward to a successful spell with Warriors.”

Benjamin burst into the first team picture during the 2007/08 season and quickly established himself as one of the deadliest and brightest young English stars in the game.

He finished his first full season as the club’s leading try-scorer with 15 in 27 games.
