STOURPORT had to settle for a share of the points from a 2-2 draw with rivals Bournville in the England Hockey League Men’s Conference West.

The visitors got into their stride straightaway and scored twice in the first nine minutes through Mark Crennan and Tom Rowland.

Stourport started to win the midfield battle through Jon Hollway’s strong tackling and distribution.

With Bournville’s Andy Heslop sin-binned for dissent, Stourport won a short corner on the stroke of half-time which was converted by Dan Packwood.

Buoyed by the goal and numerical advantage, Stourport were stronger in the second-half and levelled through Phil Lashford following Andrew Langlands’ fine run.

Keith Purcell and player-of-the-match John Yates fired the sevenths to a 2-0 home win over Walsall.

Meanwhile, Stourport missed out on the chance to climb to second spot in Midlands Women’s League Division One after being held 1-1 by fellow high-fliers Boots.

The hosts maintained possession well in the first period and went close on several occasions.

Captain Fran Moss converted a second-half short corner to fire them ahead but then Stourport tired and Boots levelled late on. Stourport’s best performers were Hannah Corcoran, Erin Preece and Sarah Cavendish.

Caroline Sidell scored all the goals as Stourport Seconds won 4-2 at Lutterworth in the Midlands Conference South.

Player-of-the-match Sidell opened the scoring on 10 minutes and then grabbed another after bottom-of-the-table Lutterworth levelled.

Sidell completed her treble after good work from Fran Moss, Holly Lashford and Shelley Tromans.

Lutterworth found a way past impressive stand-in keeper Heidi Devey again but Sidell had the final say with five minutes left.

The fourths romped to a 7-0 home win over Droitwich Thirds and moved up to second in Division Three.

Teri Baron (2), Louise Marshall (2), Caroline Wilson, Kate Bailey and player-of-the-match Emma O’Hara scored the goals.
