A COMBINATION of injuries and own goals proved too much to overcome for Evesham United who bowed out 3-1 at Sutton Coldfied in the second round of the Red Insure Cup.
Coles Lane has never been a happy-hunting ground for Evesham and so it proved.
Evesham made the worst possible start, falling behind after just three minutes — Craig Thomas sending a looping header past his own goalkeeper, Nathan Vaughan.
The Royals increased their lead on 19 minutes, former Evesham striker Richard Ball scoring at the second attempt after having his initial shot blocked.
Any hopes Evesham had of getting back into the game disappeared early in the second-half when Craig Owen’s low cross from the right was turned into his own net by Danny Hodnett.
Evesham responded with debutant Marcus Palmer and Joseph Cole both going close before Jamie Hyde added some respectability to the scoreline, pulling a goal back seven minutes from time.
