TWO late goals helped Archdales 73 beat Shirley Town 4-2 as they returned to the top of Midland Combination Division One.

The hosts took the lead on 10 minutes when Lee Seldon slotted home Ashley Banner’s corner at the near post.

Shirley hit back to level and could have taken the lead on the half-hour but man-of-the-match, keeper Lewis Pinches, tipped an effort over the bar.

With only five minutes of the first-half left, Banner’s corner was volleyed home by Scott Finnegan but Shirley replied before the interval.

The visitors were denied by Pinches until Dales manager Martin Stephens brought on new signing Tony Farnsworth on the hour.

Striker Farnsworth scored from six yards after Duncan Edwards’ shot was only parried.

Edwards then added a fourth as Dales extended their unbeaten run to six games.
