MIKE Ruddock believes his Worcester Warriors players were good value for their 12-12 draw with Bath at Sixways.

In fact, the director of rugby felt his side could have claimed four points instead of two had a few big calls gone their way.

He said: “Against Bath, we looked a good, organised side.

“Our big try-saving tackles typified our effort really. We were committed and just couldn’t quite find the killer blow to put them away. I think we deserved it.

“It’s two more points in the bag and this is a league where every point does count.

“It’s so important to pick up points whenever you can. There was nothing between the two teams — it could have gone either way.

“I felt on balance we just deserved to edge it but we didn’t and did well, in the end, to actually get the draw with a man in the sin bin.

“I thought we played pretty well, looked solid and organised and were unlucky not to get a better result.”

He added: “If it was a boxing match, we probably would have won on points.

“Bath are hard to break down and sharp on the break, as we saw when they nearly got a try early in the second-half.

“We turned ball over from a line-out and they broke away down the blindside. Nick Abendanon had a good break and they almost scored.

“They almost scored in the other corner where only a fantastic try-saving tackle by Miles Benjamin and Sam Tuitupou, combining together, stopped them.

“It was a big hit to dislodge the ball.

“But, other than, that we looked comfortable defensively. I don’t think we were ever in trouble apart from those moments.

“We also looked as if we were finishing stronger and as though we were in control of the tempo and physicality of the game. We just couldn’t generate quick ball to get our backs away in their 22.

“We had two purple patches. The first came in the first-half when we had a scrum penalty and hit the post from it.

“We followed that up with a drop goal that just went wide.

“If we had been a little bit more clinical at that moment, we would have been fine.

“Also, if we had just been a bit more clinical during the period when Sam got a yellow card we would have been fine.

“But we are not far off. We are not a million miles away from where we want to be.”
