MAINTAINING good home form will always give you a chance of reaching the play-offs in the British Basketball League.
That is something we are managing to do at Worcester Wolves.
If we can start stealing a couple of wins on the road as well, then things will be looking pretty good.
We have to find some consistency as that will give the guys a lot of confidence out on the court.
Slowly but surely we are improving. From playing 20 minutes of good basketball we are now producing 25 to 28 minutes of quality on the court —but that is not enough. We are getting ourselves into good leads but then switching off — other teams aren’t doing that.
What we have to do is work hard from the tip-off to the final buzzer and shut these games out.
The last week was an ex-tremely tough one for us. We lost up at Newcastle Eagles on the Friday night and headed home straight away to take on MK Lions the following night.
We didn’t get back into Worcester until 4am, but the guys were back in by 12.30pm analysing the video of New-castle in readiness for that evening’s game with the Lions.
We built up a good lead against Milton Keynes, but we nearly let it slip again and that is something we have to improve.
Games shouldn’t be this close. If we can close these matches out, play high quality basketball for 38 minutes and build-up big leads then maybe we can ease off a little for the final couple of minutes.
The win over Milton Key-nes saw us have two players named in the BBL team of the week.
Evaldas Zabas hit 30 points in the 92-91 victory over the Lions at guard, while Skou-son Harker scored 27 points with 14 rebounds.
Siman Stewart has im-pressed me immensely over the last few weeks and I’m starting to reward him with some more game time.
He has been knocking on the door for quite some time now and he is adjusting to my defensive systems.
He is a young British guy who is quietly going about his business on the court and I’m looking to reward him even more with extra time during matches.
The games aren’t getting any easier for us in the league as we host Cheshire Jets on Saturday night.
They are quite a similar side to ourselves who play an aggressive defence and they are a consistent outfit.
That is something that we must strive for — consistency. We have plenty to build on and improve.
Cheshire have got some good players that we have to keep quiet and they have already picked up six wins in the league so far.
But we have won our last three home matches and that is something we have to keep doing.
