STOURPORT Men’s firsts’ inconsistent form continued as they were held to a 3-3 draw at basement boys Plymouth Marjons in the English Hockey League Conference West.
The hosts looked vulnerable from the beginning and both sides squandered several opportunities in the opening stages of the match.
Stourport took the lead in the ninth minute as Mark Moss hit his first goal of the season and then England Under 18s international Dave Devey, back from a long-term knee injury, doubled the advantage before the break.
Lewis Watt and Simon Fenwick drew Plymouth level in the second-half before the latter struck his second to give the hosts the lead.
With time running out, Ali Raza fired home an equaliser for Stourport from a penalty corner.
Despite taking a 1-0 lead into the interval, the women’s firsts could only muster a 2-2 draw at Beeston seconds in Midlands Division One.
With both sides creating opportunities and defending well, the match was evenly balanced until the visitors stepped up the pace and took the lead when Fran Moss converted a short corner. Beeston hit back after the break with two goals despite the best efforts of player-of-the-match Kerry Maughan before Heidi Devey hit the equaliser for Stourport.
The seconds had to come from 2-1 down at the interval to secure a 4-3 win over Towcester seconds in Midlands Conference South.
The visitors struck twice in the space of 10 minutes before Holly Lashford linked up with Shelley Tromans to pull a goal back.
After the interval, Stourport stepped up a gear and Pippa Lewis equalised before Tromans fired them into the lead.
Lewis hit her second of the match to give the hosts a 4-2 lead before Towcester made it a nervous finale with a third goal five minutes before time. Fran Baron was named player-of-the-match.
The thirds returned to the summit of Worcestershire Division Two with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Droitwich seconds.
Georgi Hingley fired a brace, while Lauren Homer, Rhiannon Linnington-Payne, Hayley Ryan and skipper Teresa Moss were also on target. Alice Woods won the player-of-the-match award in an impressive defensive display.
Stourport women’s fourths saw off Worcestershire Division Three basement side Worcester women’s fourths with a 4-1 win.
The hosts took the lead when they caught the Stourport defence napping before player-of-the-match Caroline Wilson equalised.
Louise Marshall struck twice before the interval and Kate Bailey completed the scoring.
The men’s sevenths crashed to a 3-2 defeat at Edgbaston. John Styzaker and Charles Worthington were on target for Stourport.
