MANAGER Richard Dryden wants his side to show more of a killer instinct in their bid to climb the Blue Square South table.

City, who don’t return to league action until Saturday week, eased into the semi-finals of the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup with a 4-1 thrashing of county rivals Redditch United on Monday. Alfie Carter scored twice and strikes from Rob Elvins and sub Marco Adaggio, after Myron Semper’s consolation, completed the rout at St George’s Lane.

The margin of victory could have been more but for poor finishing and good goalkeeping from Redditch rookie Tom Turner. A lack of goals has been City’s Achilles’ heel in the league — resulting in just one point from a possible 12 — and Dryden wants his team to be more ruthless.

He said: “It looks like we are not going to win the league, we are down at the bottom for a reason but the majority of performances have been decent.

“Now we have got to start nailing teams. We missed good opportunities against Redditch and the keeper has made some great saves.

“We’re not a bottom of the league side because we are not creating chances, we are there because we are not finishing them off.”

Success against Redditch, which saw Shabir Khan make his final appearance before flying out to join Pakistan tomorrow, puts City in the hat for the last-four with Kidderminster Harriers, Stourbridge and Halesowen.

The manager, whose side host Burham in the FA Trophy on Saturday, added: “I thought it was quite comfortable. I can’t remember Jake Meredith making too many great saves.

“It was disappointing conceding the goal, but I can’t remember them putting us under too much pressure.

“We could have scored a lot more. It’s always nice to beat your neighbours, we’ve had a few tough times against them at the Lane and at their place, so it was nice to win.”
